My Top 10: From Blogging Fame to Westeros and Puggles

Navigating Milestones: From Law School Demands to Blogging Triumphs and Unexpected Joys

Delicious Strawberry Crumble served in ramekins on a rustic blue table, ready to be enjoyed.

Hello there, wonderful readers! Before we dive into the whirlwind of my past week, I simply must ask: did you notice the subtle yet significant transformation here on the blog? It’s been a long time coming, and I finally decided to switch things up. While I genuinely adore my previous theme, it felt like everyone else had adopted it too, which kind of diluted the unique vibe I aim for. Leveraging some of those dusty Computer Science skills from high school, I embarked on a little redesign project. I’m certainly no Shay Bocks – she’s an absolute wizard – but I’m quite pleased with the refreshed look. And extra points to the Mr. for his encouraging feedback, declaring it looks “very professional.” It truly feels like a fresh canvas for all the exciting content to come, perfectly reflecting the evolving journey of this space.

This past week has been an extraordinary blend of demanding responsibilities, surprising triumphs, and heartwarming discoveries. While various exciting events punctuated my days, a significant portion of my time and energy revolved around one central, rather serious, commitment: attending court. For a law student like myself, these experiences are not just optional outings but fundamental components of our practical education, offering invaluable insights into the intricacies of the legal system and the real-world application of the theories we meticulously study in textbooks.

Now, I can almost hear you thinking, “Did you steal cookies, Jessica?!” Rest assured, my court appearances were entirely academic. A core requirement of our rigorous law school program mandates that we attend court sessions and meticulously take notes several times each year. This translates into numerous days of donning professional suits, enduring the initial optimism of heels (which, I confess, usually gives way to more practical flats by day two), considerable walking across large judicial complexes, and, of course, braving the “lovely” hot sun. Thankfully, this week brought a welcome coolness, courtesy of some much-needed rain. There’s a certain thrill in walking into the courthouse alongside my peers; to non-lawyers, we probably project an air of accomplished attorneys. That illusion, however, quickly dissipates when the actual attorneys spot us with our bright yellow and white notepads, squinting at the directory boards in search of our assigned courtrooms, and generally looking every bit the rookies we are. But one day soon, my friends, one day soon! These experiences are shaping us, one observation and one notepad scribble at a time, into the legal professionals we aspire to become.

Beyond the courtroom, a substantial portion of my week was dedicated to intense studying. Don’t worry, I’m just getting the more arduous but necessary things out of the way before we delve into the more celebratory moments. I am rapidly approaching a monumental milestone: my last exams EVER, scheduled for the end of May. As I type this, the stark realization that this is barely a month away is sending ripples of panic through me. OMG. The pressure is immense, and these aren’t just any exams; they are the culmination of years of dedicated effort, long nights, and countless cups of coffee. I can easily spend an entire day delving into a single complex topic from just one course and still not feel thoroughly prepared. The sheer depth of material requires an almost obsessive level of detail and understanding. So please, I beg of you, send prayers, bake me a comforting batch of cookies, or sing me a cheerful tune – I genuinely need all the support and good vibes I can get to navigate this final hurdle. Quick, someone pass me a cookie to calm my nerves!

A delicious dessert with berries and cream, titled 'Foodie Recipe of the Day,' featuring a blue ribbon for excellence.

Now, let’s shift our focus to far happier and more exhilarating news! Remember how I mentioned needing a cookie? Well, something happened that was even better than a cookie. Let’s talk about the incredible moment I got featured on Foodie by Glam’s email as their coveted Recipe of the Day! Oh wait, that wasn’t “some time ago” – that was just yesterday! *big grin* I’m the kind of person who gets ridiculously excited if I merely get to pet a puppy, so you can just imagine the sheer elation that washed over me when my dear friend Zainab messaged me to share the fantastic news. It was the perfect antidote to what had been a rather grueling schedule. I had just pulled an all-nighter, finally collapsing into bed at 8 AM, only to wake up sporadically at 9 AM and then 11 AM. Receiving such an awesome wakeup message and email was truly a highlight, making the exhaustion melt away. What’s even more incredible is that I only joined the Foodie by Glam network on Monday, and they had already tweeted me to say they chose my recipe before I even completed the sign-up process! You can only imagine who was blushing insanely (mentally, of course) at that revelation. It’s such a validating feeling to have your passion recognized on such a prominent platform, and it truly fuels the fire to keep creating and sharing delicious recipes with you all.

POPSUGAR Select website banner showcasing 'Blogger of the Week' with featured blog posts.

And the good news doesn’t stop there! In another thrilling development, I was also recognized as POPSUGAR’s Blogger of the Week! As a proud member of their Blogger Select group, I frequently submit posts to their site because I absolutely adore their content and broad reach. To be singled out from such a vibrant community was truly exhilarating! I’m almost certain this wonderful recognition had everything to do with my hugely popular 5-Ingredient Strawberry Crumble post from last week. It seems that recipe resonated deeply with readers and the POPSUGAR team, which I can only take to mean I did a pretty awesome job. Yay! These moments of recognition, whether it’s for a recipe or for overall blogging efforts, are incredibly rewarding. They serve as powerful motivators, affirming that the hard work and passion I pour into this blog are truly connecting with people and making an impact. It’s a fantastic feeling to know that my content, especially something as simple yet delightful as a strawberry crumble, can bring joy and inspiration to a wider audience through platforms like Foodie by Glam and POPSUGAR. It reinforces the idea that sharing simple, delicious, and approachable recipes can have a far-reaching positive effect, encouraging others to get into their kitchens and create something wonderful.

Adorable Puggle dog looking intently at the camera, with soft, floppy ears and expressive eyes.

Speaking of puppies, my current count of dogs I desperately want to get has reached #15! My heart has been completely captured by a new breed. I was browsing Pickles and Honey today and stumbled upon these absolutely adorable creatures called Puggles. WHERE HAVE I BEEN ALL THIS TIME?! It feels like a secret world of canine cuteness has just opened up to me. A Puggle is a charming and often hilarious mix of a Pug and a Beagle, combining the best traits of both breeds. They have the wrinkled, expressive face of a Pug, often with the longer snout of a Beagle (which means fewer breathing issues!), coupled with the floppy ears and inquisitive nature of a Beagle. I don’t want to violate her dog’s endless “awwwwwwws,” so I’ve included a Google image here to give you a glimpse of what this delightful mix looks like. I am completely and utterly in love, for sure. Imagine the playful antics and the snuggles! Along with my beloved Pomeranians and the vision of a big, fluffy black dog, I think our household will be perfectly fine. What’s that, Mr. Jessiker Bakes? I can’t quite hear you over the sound of my future furry family members!

On the entertainment front, I have officially committed a grave crime: I’ve missed two entire episodes of “Suits.” Yes, you can go ahead and arrest me for such an egregious offense. Again, I will place all the blame squarely on the relentless studying schedule that consumed my week, causing me to completely forget about my beloved legal drama until it accidentally popped up on my social media timeline. How is it possible that the Season Finale is next week?! It feels like the season just started moments ago. There’s a theory I’ve heard circulating multiple times, posing the question: is it true that only law students and their partners watch “Suits”? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, as it’s a debate that often sparks lively conversations amongst my peers. Perhaps it’s the relatable (or aspirational) legal drama that draws us in, or maybe it’s just a fantastic show that appeals to a broader audience. Either way, I’m scrambling to catch up before the grand conclusion.

Now, speaking of unmissable shows, “Game of Thrones” (GOT) makes its triumphant return this Sunday, and I am beyond ready. I’ve pretty much cleared my entire day (oh, how I wish that were truly possible) to make ample way for the intense anticipation and the ritualistic viewing experience. Before the cultural phenomenon that is “Game of Thrones” captured our collective imagination, “Dexter” was the original show that consistently brought my family together for weekly viewing parties. After the sheer brutality and emotional devastation of the Red Wedding scene last season, I am pretty much emotionally unprepared for whatever new twists, turns, and heart-wrenching moments they’ll inevitably throw at us this season. Each new episode of GOT is a masterclass in suspense, often leaving viewers reeling and discussing for days. Is anyone else as nervous and exhilarated as I am for the premiere? The intricate plots, complex characters, and shocking developments are what make it such a captivating series, and I can’t wait to dive back into Westeros, albeit with a healthy dose of trepidation.

Before you head off to conquer your own week, I have one final, crucial recommendation that is guaranteed to brighten your day. I absolutely need you to watch this incredibly heartwarming video of laughing babies. It is insanely adorable, infectious, and absolutely bound to make you smile, if not outright laugh. There’s something so pure and joyful about a baby’s laughter, and this compilation is truly a dose of pure happiness. It’s a wonderful reminder of the simple joys in life, especially after a week packed with academic pressures and professional aspirations. Babies truly do rule the world with their innocence and boundless joy! Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead, filled with your own triumphs and discoveries.
