Jessica in the Kitchen Welcomes Gavin: Meet Our New Full-Time Partner and Culinary Powerhouse!

Hey friends and fellow food enthusiasts! We’ve got some incredibly exciting news to share that marks a significant new chapter for Jessica in the Kitchen. Today’s post is a little different, as we’re officially extending a huge, heartfelt welcome to Gavin – affectionately known as “The Mr.” – who has now joined the Jessica in the Kitchen team full-time!
It feels almost unbelievable that Gavin, or Gav as we often call him, officially became a full-time member of our operations last month, and in the hustle and bustle of content creation and recipe development, we realized we never made a proper announcement! *Fake gasp* Yes, it’s true! So, with immense joy and a touch of belated enthusiasm, here is the official, grand announcement you’ve all been waiting for!
For those of you who frequently engage with our community, whether through blog comments or social media, you might have already encountered Gavin’s prompt and helpful replies. He’s much quicker at responding than I am (trust me, my social media DMs are a testament to that!), so consider this your official heads-up: when you receive a lightning-fast, insightful response, you now know it’s our amazing Gavin on the other end! To properly introduce you to the man behind many of those replies and so much more, we’ve put together a little Q&A and an in-depth look at his pivotal new role.
What’s Gavin’s Official Role at Jessica in the Kitchen?
Running an online business, especially a dynamic food blog like Jessica in the Kitchen, is a fascinating journey. While we have official titles and responsibilities, the reality is that there are countless unofficial roles and tasks that keep everything running smoothly. Gavin’s contributions are truly multifaceted, and his impact is already being felt across every aspect of our platform. Let me walk you through the comprehensive list of responsibilities Gav is tackling and will continue to expand upon:
- Website Background Manager: This is a crucial role for ensuring that our content not only looks great but performs exceptionally well online. Gavin is diligently working to ensure all posts, both new and old, meet and exceed our SEO standards. This includes updating older recipes – some of which date back to JITK’s inception in 2010! – to improve their accuracy, enhance their discoverability on Google, and ultimately, help more readers find the delicious plant-based recipes they’re searching for. He’s already identified a treasure trove of updates needed across hundreds of posts, making sure our valuable content continues to reach and inspire a wider audience, spreading the food love far and wide.
- Brand Manager: Building authentic relationships with brands that align with our values is paramount. Gavin has taken on the vital task of compiling a strategic list of brands and reaching out to potential partners that we truly admire and believe in. While about 90% of the time amazing brands find us, we also proactively seek out those special few – roughly 10% – that resonate deeply with our mission. We are unwavering in our commitment to transparency, only collaborating with brands we genuinely love and use. Gavin now manages these crucial communications, ensuring our partnerships are strong, ethical, and beneficial for our community.
- Community Engagement & Comment Response: I always strive to answer every single question and comment here on the blog and across our social platforms, but honestly, I often fall behind! Gavin has proven to be incredibly efficient in managing our comment sections, especially here and on Facebook. This means you’ll get quicker, more thoughtful responses to your culinary queries. It’s worth noting that Gavin is a phenomenal cook himself! Having lived with a vegetarian (now vegan!) for so long, he possesses a deep understanding of our plant-based world and food in general, making his advice and insights incredibly valuable.
- Team Management: As Jessica in the Kitchen continues to grow, so does our incredible support team. Gavin is stepping into an eventual role where he will oversee communications and coordination with our wider team members. This includes our talented designers who bring our visuals to life, our diligent virtual assistants, the indispensable website technicians and hosts who keep everything running smoothly, our innovative developers, and any other experts we bring on board to help us expand and innovate. This role is key to ensuring seamless collaboration and continued growth.
- Set Management: Oh my goodness, thank goodness for this one! This role has been a game-changer. Gavin handles the entire process of assembling and breaking down all of our video, photography, and YouTube sets. To be completely candid, this was always a source of significant anxiety for me. The sheer volume of equipment, the delicate nature of camera gear, and the constant fear of dropping something (which I have done with a lens before – Gavin was my resident shoulder to cry on that day!) made this task particularly stressful. With Gavin managing the sets, I can now walk right onto a perfectly prepared set, ready to focus purely on the videography, photography, or even just smiling for five minutes, making the entire creative process so much smoother and more enjoyable.
- ALL the Other Things: You see, running an online business like Jessica in the Kitchen is a job that truly never ends. Gavin and I are now working side-by-side on almost everything. This ranges from the not-so-glamorous task of washing dishes after a marathon recipe testing session (screams internally, but we get it done together!) to brainstorming fresh ideas for the upcoming month (he’s affectionately known as the “idea man” around here!). He’s also the one who gently, but firmly, drags me away from my laptop when I insist that working until 4 AM is perfectly normal. He’s my unwavering support system, offering a shoulder to cry on when I inevitably become too critical of myself after a challenging shoot. And yes, he’s the hero who navigates the supermarket aisles, often at 10 PM, when I suddenly, desperately NEED another bottle of pure maple syrup for a shoot. His patience is truly boundless. There are countless other unlisted tasks, big and small, that make up his indispensable contributions. All in all, he is now my full-time partner, not just in life, but in building Jessica in the Kitchen.

Great! So, What Are You Doing Now, Jessica?!
Don’t worry, I’m still doing all the things I’ve always loved to do! This post, however, isn’t about me – it’s about celebrating Gavin and what his arrival means for Jessica in the Kitchen. His full-time involvement is truly transformative; it means that all the ambitious goals and exciting projects I’ve dreamed of for this platform are now finally within reach. With Gavin’s dedication and diverse skill set, we can accelerate our growth, explore new content formats, and bring you even more delicious and inspiring plant-based content. So, get ready to see some truly new and exciting things unfold in the coming months!
A Little Bit of Background on Gavin
Beyond his incredible professional contributions, Gavin is an extraordinary person, and I’m so thrilled for you all to get to know him better. Here are a few fun facts about the man who’s now half of the JITK dream team:
- My Husband and Best Friend: We’ve been happily married for almost three years now, and our journey together began nearly six years ago. Here’s a fun tidbit: we started dating on July 3rd, and fittingly, we got married on July 4th – a true Independence Day celebration for us both!
- Exceptional Knife Skills: If you’ve ever admired how perfectly diced an onion or how beautifully sliced a vegetable appeared in one of our blog post photos, chances are, Gavin was the one wielding the knife. My onion-cutting skills, while improved, are nowhere near his level of precision and speed! His meticulous prep work ensures our ingredients always look their best.
- Master Chef and “Sauce King”: Gavin is an absolutely brilliant chef. Before we became a full-time business team, he used to cook for my family all the time, and they quickly fell in love with his culinary creations. He’s incredibly adept at both vegetarian and vegan cooking, effortlessly crafting flavorful and innovative dishes. There’s a reason he’s earned the nickname “Sauce King” – his ability to create rich, complex, and utterly delicious sauces is unparalleled! For a taste of his genius, check out this incredible Loaded Sweet Potato Skins recipe, which he personally developed and perfected.
- Patience Beyond Belief: This quality is invaluable, especially in the fast-paced, often demanding world of food blogging. From endless recipe tests to late-night grocery runs for that one essential ingredient, Gavin’s unwavering patience and support are truly a gift. Thank you, Gavin, for being you!
- A Month of Vegetarianism (and Beyond!): I just had to shout this from the rooftops! Gavin is currently undertaking a full month of vegetarianism, and it’s been going incredibly well. We’re only in week one, and already, it feels like we’ve collectively unlocked a whole new dimension of the meatless world. We’re experimenting with diverse ingredients, exploring new cuisines, and even made vegan sausages from scratch the other night – a truly heavenly experience for a long-time vegan like me! If you’re curious about his journey or want to see us share more about this experience, please let us know in the comments!
How Has This Experience Been for You, Jessica?!
Okay, I promised I wouldn’t make this post all about me, but I have to share a little bit about what this incredible transition has meant. Honestly, it has been nothing short of amazing. Firstly, and perhaps most profoundly, I am no longer working alone all day! Running an online business, especially from home, can sometimes be an isolating experience, and having my partner by my side has completely transformed my daily routine and mindset.
Secondly, my partner in crime is now officially my partner in business too! Gavin and I made a conscious and deliberate decision to embrace this new chapter as a true husband-and-wife team, and I believe it’s working out incredibly well for us. Our strengths complement each other perfectly, and the synergy of our combined efforts is already evident. I cannot wait to share with you all the incredible progress and new developments we achieve after we’ve had even more time working together. Being able to blend our personal relationship with our professional aspirations, all while being each other’s best friend, has been a uniquely rewarding and profoundly amazing experience so far.
Do you have any burning questions for us as a team? Would you love to see more joint content, perhaps with Gavin stepping in front of the camera more often?
